Americans consume 3.6 zettabytes of data – but what is a zettabyte?

A zettabyte sounds impressive but is it just another American made up number (like gallons). Well no. It is how ever a very large number and not a bad pub quiz question.

1 zettabyte is  1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (21 zeros) (see wikipedia)

One question is what is the carbon footprint for all this 90% useless data.
